The federal government has established that all solicitations under the simplified acquisition threshold shall be set aside for small business or further restricts competition to one of the small business subcategories such as 8(a), HUBZone, SDVOSB, WOSB, or EDWOSB. With this in mind, what does a business have to do to qualify for these various small business designations? Which certifications are self-certified and which require an application and approval process? And once a business obtains certifications – what do they do with them?
