State of Alaska Regulation Updates

The changes that have been made regarding Filed Permanent Regulations: Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development relate mainly to handymen, specialty and mechanical contractors in the industry.  Many of the changes are general language clean up.  However, surety bond amounts have changed across the industry.  These changes go into effect August 8, 2021.

  • Mechanical and specialty contractors bond amounts has changed from $5,000 to $10,000 and general contractors are up from $10,000 to a $25,000 bond.
  • General contractors who have residential endorsements, that preform residential work will now be required to deposit a $20,000 bond, a handyman license holder will now be required to carry a $5,000 bond.
  • The bill makes changes to the Alaska Home Energy Rating System relating to levels of energy rating for residential buildings.
